August is Child Support Awareness Month

child support parents reinstatement programParents in Montgomery County who have had their drivers privileges suspended for not paying child support can take advantage of a special reinstatement program that is being offered during the month of August. August is Child Support Awareness Month, and the Montgomery County Child Support Enforcement Agency is giving parents with suspended licenses an opportunity to have the suspension lifted if the parent pays one month of back support. Usually in order to get the suspension lifted, the parent has to pay 3 months.

During the pandemic, many parents had financial difficulties and fell behind in making payments. Sarah Fields, Montgomery County ‘s Assistant Director for Child Support says, “We know parents want to support their children but may need help figuring out a repayment plan that works for everyone involved. This reinstatement opportunity reopens the lines of communications between CSEA and parents and allow us to work together to find solutions for their children. ” It is not debt forgiveness, but it is an opportunity for parents to get back on track.

The CSEA also offers parents services like co-parenting resources such as mediation, and employment resources. Parents taking advantage of this reinstatement program  will also be able to work CSEA employment program.

Month of August Brings Opportunity for Parents

The agency is partnering with the Montgomery County Workforce Development Team to help parents  who are either underemployed or unemployed. Fields also said, “A lot of times when you can’t make that child support payment, you might feel ashamed or you might feel like you don’t want to be in touch with us and go underground so you don’t face any kind of repercussions, but really the best thing to do is the opposite of that. Come talk to us, we have a lot of ways we can assist you.”

This program has been offered for the month of August for several years. Last year, 44 parents took advantage of the reinstatement opportunity. As a result more than $12,000 was collected in back support.

Parents can visit The Job Center at 1111 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for Child Support assistance. Live online chat support is offered during the same hours. The Call Center can be reached at 937-225-4600 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
