Spreading Cheer and Embracing Change: Reflections and Resolutions for 2025
I hope each of you have had a most joyous holiday season!
This is an appropriate time to reflect upon memories of past Christmas celebrations and traditions. In our family, we were very involved with a Christmas project providing gifts for needy children for many years while our sons were growing up. As a family, we spent countless hours working at the Center. We have tried to instill upon our family the importance of sharing and helping others.
The Spirit of Giving: Lessons from Holiday Traditions and Collaborative Family Law in 2025
It is too easy this time of year to become consumed by all the shopping, decorating, numerous errands and superficial things. Focus can be lost on real matters of consequence, such as the meaning and importance of family. Regardless of one’s religious convictions, this is an excellent time to reflect upon our core values and aspire to do what we each can to make the lives of others around us better, even if it is in some small seemingly insignificant way.
Family issues are obviously important, both personally and professionally. Much of my professional life is spent with clients discussing family and marital issues. In my conferences with clients, I often find that many have obtained bad or erroneous information from family, friends or other sources. That is why, in part, I decided to launch the Ohio Family Law Blog in 2007 and have been publishing it ever since.
I AM STARTING A NEW CHAPTER IN 2025 WITH THE FORMATION OF MUESLAW…
have recently announced that starting this month that I am transitioning my practice away from handling contentious divorce cases and instead I am focusing my practice on more of the collaborative aspects of family law, including dissolutions, agreed upon divorces, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements. This transition aligns with my commitment to Collaborative Family Law in 2025, which emphasizes efficiency, fairness, and a problem-solving mindset. I have seen too much needless and unnecessary “head-banging” over my 45 years of practice. Much of it has been created by greedy lawyers who seemingly never want to solve problems/issues as well as by the legal system itself that can capture the parties and essentially hijack them into a long and expensive process.
Uncoupling parties and ending a bad marriage does not need to be like this! In my new practice, I am incorporating a more holistic approach utilizing mediation and collaborative law techniques. In addition, I am bringing onboard experienced area professionals such as Accountants, Certified Divorce Financial Analysts, Appraisers, and Therapists as needed on a case-by-case basis. I will be advocating pursuing a more collaborative approach and will incorporate various alternative dispute resolution techniques such as mediation.
A New Era in Family Law: Collaborative Family Law in 2025, Solutions for a Better Future
This focus on Collaborative Family Law in 2025 reflects my belief that so many cases I have seen over the years could have been resolved efficiently and fairly settled working together rather than fighting over every possible issue!
Over the next several months I will be posting more about this approach. I will continue to publish the Ohio Family Law Blog as well!
